Beacons Chopped Down by Beavers

Beacons Chopped Down by Beavers

The men’s lacrosse team dropped their home opener 14-5 against Babson College. The team’s record falls to 0-2 in the young season.

The team traveled to Orlando, Florida for Spring Break for a match against New England College. The Beacons lost 13-5.

The opening quarter of the Babson game was very promising for UMB. Senior attacker Josh Stolp scored twice and fellow attacker Mike Forns tallies a goal and two assists. Goaltender Nick Eaton thwarted some very good Babson scoring chances in the first period.

The second quarter, however, proved to be much different. The Beavers’ offense clicked into high gear as the team scored seven consecutive goals in the first seven minutes of the quarter. UMB had difficulty getting the ball out of their defensive zone and the Beavers seemed to capitalize on almost every Beacon mistake. Although Stolp managed to score his third goal of the game to cut the Babson lead to 7-4, Babson Tim Armenta scored the final goal of the first half shortly after Stolp’s goal.

A very torn up field caused players on both sides to lose their footing. The Beavers, however, did a better job of coming up with loose balls. Tim Keating scored in the opening minutes of the third quarter on a man advantage but the Babson defense completely shut the door after that. The Beavers scored six more times for the final score.

The Beacons next play on Thursday March 27 at home against Curry College and then on Saturday, March 29 at home against Norwich.
