Ryan Lounge is a Slap in the Face

I am writing to say how pleased I was to see the letter about the Ryan Lounge. I couldn’t agree more. When I saw it was under construction, I couldn’t believe it had started so close to the end of the semester when we have such a long semester break. I had a three-hour break between classes and I was sick of the chairs in the library. To say it politely, they are uncomfortable. But when I saw what the lounge had been turned into, I realized the lounge hadn’t just been remodeled–it had been reconceptualized. There is no way the person who picked out that furniture had the students’ comfort in mind. The chairs with desktops are laughable. We go to the Ryan Lounge precisely because we are SICK of sitting at DESKS. The love seats, if you will, are uncomfortable to even sit on, forget about lying down. With budget cuts affecting everything from our pockets to the quality of our education and student life, the new Ryan Lounge is a slap in the face. I’m sure someone somewhere is happy to be rid of such an eyesore, so congratulations. If you’d like to thank me personally I’ll be napping on the floor of the ninth-floor stacks in Healey.
