Anytime a soccer goalkeeper has to stop 23 shots, you know that something is a bit off.

The UMass Boston women’s soccer team had miserable time in the rain against Rhode Island College (RIC). Although UMB’s Kristen Bowes came up with a Herculean effort (recording 23 saves), the Anchorwomen managed to register seven goals while allowing zero. The defeat was the fourth in a row for the Beacons.

The loss puts the Beacons’ record at 2-8 for the season and 0-3 in the Little East Conference (LEC). The Anchorwomen improved their overall record to 5-6 and 2-1 in the LEC.

Six different RIC players scored in the game, led by Alyson St. Amand’s two goals. Jennifer Ledoux also played a good game, notching one goal and recording two assists.

The Beacons played a relatively competitive first half. Although UMB did not register a shot in the game, RIC only had one goal at half time. It was the second half that was as miserable as the inclement weather.

UMB’s next game is at home on Thursday, October 9 against Lesley at 3:30pm.
