Motley Honored by American Red Cross

Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs J. Keith Motley last week was given the American Red Cross Clara Barton Awarded for Meritorious Volunteer Service at the organization’s annual meeting at the Westin Copley.

“I was shocked that I got it from them,” said Dr. Motley, who arrived at UMass Boston last August. Motley also serves as chair of volunteers for the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay Board of Trustees. “You don’t do this stuff for awards, but it’s nice when it happens.”

Wrote Vida E. Pool, director of volunteer resources, “This prestigious award is presented to a volunteer who has served in a number of leadership positions and whose personal expertise and guidance have enabled the Red Cross to contribute valuable service to the community.”

Draft Retrofit Committee to Hold Town Meeting

With the big move into the new Campus Center months away, where student services and student activities will be going, a Draft Retrofit Committee is meeting on October 28 in the Provost Conference Room at 11:30am to discuss the consolidation of space on campus.

Phases I and II have already been revealed, and include plans to consolidate the Anthropology Department and the Arts Department, currently scattered to the four corners of campus; to move the WUMB radio station from its Healey Library basement location to where the bookstore is now; and to put a new GIS laboratory in the Quinn Administration Building.
