I noticed in the news brief section that Gora intends to place a seven page ad insert in the Globe on April 14th, but the cost of the ad wasn’t mentioned. I suspect it wasn’t mentioned because no one would tell you, and if you call the Globe and identify yourself as a reporter they’ll flat out tell you that it’s a “trade secret.” However, if you were to call the Globe and identify yourself as the owner of a business (as I did when I was wondering how much Verizon was spending over the summer to stick it to its Unions) you’ll find out that just one full page ad (run on a Sunday – Saturday would be different as would weekdays) costs $75,000. Imagine what the cost of the 7 page spread will be . . .

I think Gora, or whoever stated that most of the costs would be paid by advertisers, is full of shit. And you can actually find out if that is the case, once they run the insert, by putting in a Freedom of Information Act request specifically asking how much they spent. It might make for an interesting story.
