UMass Boston’s Player of the Week

#31 Amanda Boucher
#31 Amanda Boucher

Amanda Boucher had one of her best weekends as an UMass Boston Beacon women’s ice hockey goaltender. The freshman from Billerica, Massachusetts played in a pair of games against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on February 14 and 15, coming away with one win and one loss. What was most impressive was the overall play of UMB against the seventh-ranked team in Division III, according to the United States College Hockey Organization poll.

Boucher out-dueled her RPI counterpart Rosina Schiff. Boucher stopped a total of 35 shots on Valentine’s Day and made some spectacular saves down the stretch. In fact, she had a shutout going until RPI finally tallied one at the 15:44 mark of the third period.

The freshman Beacon came up just short the following day as UMB lost to RPI 2-1. But she again played brilliantly in net, turning back 39 shots in the loss. Boucher’s hot play is a good sign for the Beacons as they prepare for playoff action.
