Medical Leave of Absence for UMB Men’s Ice Hockey Coach

According to the Department of UMass Boston Athletics, Jack Foley, the second year men’s ice hockey coach, will take a three-month leave of absence due to medical reasons.

Foley, one time coach of vaunted high school hockey factory Thayer Academy in Braintree, requested the time off. No specifics were given to his medical situation.

So far, Foley has compiled a 2-35-2 record during his short stint as head coach.

Assistant Coach Michael Bertoni, a former four-year player (98-02) for UMB, will take over the helm for the remainder of the season. Bertoni joined Foley behind the bench at the start of the 2002-03 season.
